We Are Mission – Catholic Diocese of Joliet

We seek to assist followers of Christ in responding to the call to go forth into all of the world, proclaiming, in both word and deed, the Good News that Jesus the Messiah is Lord. God has triumphed over evil through the Cross and His reign is breaking forth into our world.

We do this through four primary ministries: the Pontifical Missions Societies, which is the Church in the United States collaboration with the Vatican in mission activities throughout the world, the Missionary Cooperative Plan which brings missionaries from around the globe to speak of their work and the call to mission in the parishes of our diocese, our Mission Education and Animation Program, and through our own diocesan mission endeavor – Partnership in Mission.

Partnership in Mission seeks to form servants for the work of missions and justice as we reach out in service, relief, and friendship to our brothers and sisters around the globe. We presently send medical, construction, outreach, and university teams to Bolivia, The Philippines, Uganda, and the Navajo Nation, as well as responding to national disasters here in the U.S. We anticipate a new work in the West Bank, Palestine in 2022. We are also excited to announce a new local service immersion experience, sponsored by our sister ministry in the Office for Human Dignity, Laudato Si’ Ministries, at Jordon River Farm in Pembroke Township, Kankakee County.

“In Christ, our life is itself a mission! We are mission, because we are God’s love poured out, God’s holiness created in his own image.”

Pope Francis
